The ventricular system is formed from the enclosed fluid filled space at the center of the neural tube. In the adult, flow of CSF in ventricular spaces is from the paired lateral ventricles, through the foramen of Monro, to the third ventricle, connecting to the fourth ventricle through the cerebral aqueduct of the midbrain and then entering the subarachnoid cisterns via the foramina of Magendie (medial) and Luschka (lateral) at the posterior aspect between the pons and cerebellum.
