VL is the middle nucleus of the ventral tier of thalamic relay nuclei, interposed between VA and VP. VL receives its principal projection from the cerebellum (specifically, the contralateral dentate nucleus) and is principally connected with primary motor cortex (Brodmann’s area 4).
