VA is the anterior-most nucleus of the ventral tier of thalamic relay nuclei. VA receives its principal projection from the basal ganglia (the internal division of the ipsilateral globus pallidus) and is principally connected with premotor cortex and supplementary motor cortex (Brodmann’s area 6).
