This caudal midbrain nucleus is at the level of the inferior colliculus, near the midline and just posterior to the MLF. Its axons cross, exit posteriorly under the inferior colliculus, wrap around the midbrain to join with the 3rd CN and finally synapse on the superior oblique extraocular muscle of the contralateral eye.
