These 2 ascending pathways lie adjacent to each other on the surface of the lateral funiculus. Both carry proprioceptive and other somatosensory information from the lower limbs to the cerebellum; however, they differ dramatically in their origins and their routes to the cerebellum. Unlike the other ascending tracts (i.e., the anterolateral and posterior column systems) the spinocerebellar tracts do not contribute to conscious sensations, only to motor coordination.
