Comprised of axons of neurons in the reticular formation (RF)of the pontine and medullary brainstem. There is both an lateral (medullary) RS tract that lies in the lateral spinal funiculus and comes from RF of the medulla, and also a medial RS tract that derives from RF of the pons. Reticulospinal (and vestibulospinal below) tracts contribute to spasticity and rigidity that follows lesions of the corticospinal system. This is mostly an uncrossed pathway.
