The large nucleus at the caudal end of the thalamus. The pulvinar receives projections from the superior colliculus and is connected with a large zone of parietal-temporal-occipital (PTO) association cortex. Its function may be to communicate information from one part of the cerebral cortex to another and it may be involved in directing attention. The medial and lateral geniculate nuclei are attached inferiorly near the caudal end of the pulvinar.
