The olfactory sulcus is the groove the olfactory tract lies in as it proceeds posteriorly along the orbital surface of the frontal lobe, from the olfactory bulb to the olfactory stria. The olfactory sulcus also serves to separate the gyrus rectus (medial to the sulcus) from the medial orbital gyrus (lateral to the olfactory sulcus, despite its name). The gyrus rectus is sometimes called the “straight gyrus”.
