These the two “posterior column nuclei” found in the caudal medulla directly under the bumps called the gracile and cuneate tubercles seen on the back of the brainstem. Nucleus Gracilis is the target nucleus for the Fasciculus Gracilis and thus contains the 2nd-order sensory neurons of the posterior column system (aka medial lemniscal system) for the lower limbs. Nucleus Cuneatus is lateral and slightly superior to Nucleus Gracilis and is for the upper limbs.
