A distinctive fiber tract found at the midline throughout the brainstem from the oculomotor nucleus to the decussation of the pyramids and then shifts to a medial position in the anterior funiculus of the spinal cord. The ascending MLF interconnects the vestibular, oculomotor, trochlear and abducens nuclei. The descending MLF mainly arises from the medial vestibular nucleus.
