The MFB is a large group of fibers running rostrocaudally throughout the lateral hypothalamus. The MFB is found at all 4 hypothalamic levels, and continues beyond the hypothalamus in both directions to connect it with orbitofrontal cortex, the nucleus accumbens, the septal region, and the brainstem reticular formation. Electrical stimulation of the MFB causes sensations of intense pleasure.
