The final ventricle is behind the pons and upper medulla, which form its “floor”. It receives CSF from the cerebral aqueduct of the midbrain and discharges CSF into the subarachnoid space through two lateral (of Luschka) foramina (aka lateral recess or apertures) and a single, midline foramen (of Magendie).
