The inverse of the Geniculostriate system, extrageniculate pathways refer to the other targets or pathways by which visual input can reach the brain independent of the principal pathway from eye to LGN to V1. Brainstem targets of the optic tract include the superior colliculus (saccades), the pretectal area (pupillary constriction) and the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus (circadian rhythms).
