The anterior (ventral) cochlear nucleus is located anterolateral to the inferior cerebellar peduncle (and, obviously, anterior to the posterior cochlear nucleus). Efferents from the anterior cochlear nucleus proceed medially along a path anterior to the ICP. Some synapse in the ipsilateral superior olive. The others decussate in the trapezoid body and then synapse in the contralateral superior olive (Some of the crossing fibers also ascend in the contralateral lateral lemniscus).
