The auditory component of the cranial nerve 8 (the vestibulo-cochlear nerve). The cell bodies are in the Spiral (or auditory) ganglion. These bipolar cells send a process to synapse on the cochlear hair cells and centrally to the cochlear nuclei of the rostral medulla.
