The small and rather flimsy flocculonodular lobe is mostly hidden between the cerebellum and the brainstem. It consists of a central nodulus attached to two lateral wings, the flocculi; with the nodulus being attached to anterior end of the inferior vermis. Its primary external connections are with the vestibular nuclei, its principal deep cerebellar nucleus is the fastigial (the most medial nucleus), and it participates in balance, spatial orientation, and eye movements. Vestibulocerebellum lesions can cause nystagmus, truncal instability and ataxia.
