The largest functional zone, the cerebrocerebellum, receives most of its inputs from the cerebral cortex (It is also sometimes called the pontocerebellum as these inputs come exclusively from the pontine nuclei via the middle cerebellar peduncle). The cerebrocerebellum encompasses most of the massive posterior lobe excluding just the medial strip (vermis and para vermis)and also includes the adjoining lateral hemispheres of the anterior lobe. It is connected with the largest deep cerebellar nucleus, the dentate, and is likely to have cognitive functions in addition to a role in coordinating distal limb movements and speech. Cerebrocerebellum lesions can cause ataxia of the extremities and of speech (dysarthria).
