Broca’s aphasia is also called expressive aphasia or non-fluent aphasia, and can be caused by lesions of Broca’s area in the dominant hemisphere. Speech is difficult to initiate, labored, and halting. Grammar and sentence construction are disturbed. Writing is disturbed as well, but language comprehension can be normal.
