A prominent band of fibers, visible on the posterior surface of the brainstem that extends laterally and upward from the superior colliculus (SC) to the lateral geniculate body (LGn). This strip is composed of fibers of the optic tract that bypassed the lateral geniculate body to terminate in the superior colliculus (and also in the pretectal region and other places in the brainstem). Hence, unlike the brachium of the inferior colliculus (see above), the brachium of the superior colliculus is not a link in the main visual pathway from the eye to primary visual cortex (the geniculostriate pathway).
