A prominent band of fibers, visible on the posterior surface of the brainstem, that extends upward and laterally from the inferior colliculus (IC) to the medial geniculate nucleus (MGn). Functionally, these fibers carry auditory signals from IC to MGn, and thus are a critical link in the auditory pathway from the cochlear nuclei to the primary auditory cortex in the superior plane of the temporal lobe.
