Primary auditory cortex (A1, Brodmann’s area 41) is located in the two distinctive transverse gyri (Heschl’s gyri) that lie on superior temporal plane (a special name for the superior surface of the superior temporal gyrus). Specifically, A1 is located near the posterior end of the lateral sulcus, and you must slightly open the lateral sulcus to see Heschl’s gyri and A1.
