This columnar motor nucleus is found throughout the length of the lower medulla, located posterior to the inferior olive, lateral to the medial lemniscus, and medial and anterior to the spinal nucleus of V. It contributes fibers to cranial nerves IX and X to innervate the muscles of the pharynx and larynx.
