V2 is the occipital cortex adjacent to V1 that receives a strong organized projection from V1 and thus forms another retinotopic representation of the contralateral visual field. Interesting V2 facts: (1) the visual field representation in V2 is split in that the upper field V2 is not adjacent to its lower field representation. Instead upper visual field is in the lingual gyrus below V1 and the lower field of V2 is found in the cuneus gyrus above V1. (2) V2 is not equivalent to Brodmann’s area 18, in fact V2 is only about half the size of area 18. (3) Moreover, V2 is only about half the size of V1.
