Axons of the Oculomotor nucleus travel oculomotor nerve (3rd cranial nerve) and innervate 4 of the 6 extraocular muscles and also the levator palpebrae. The nuclei lie very near the midline of the rostral midbrain, just the anterior to the periaqueductal grey.
